Welcome to a peer based songwriting and production community.
Welcome to a peer based songwriting and production community.
Songbanks is a passionate, supportive community that helps songwriters and artists achieve their goals to create more music. Our founders are songwriters themselves who will participate in this journey right along with you. Our peer based feedback group means there's no ego here and no favoritism. Everyone is here to learn and grow from each other. No "showing off for teacher" in this group.
Every week, you will be given a brief and a word prompt to help you create great songs. These will go out each Monday, and you have until Sunday evening that week to complete at least a verse and a chorus of your new song. Imagine having 52 new songs after your first year! Every month you will have the opportunity to get that song across the "finished" line by working with a team of producers who are skilled at creating amazing tracks: 52 new songs; 12 fully produced in one year!
We offer a range of services to help songwriters take their careers to the next level. Beyond the community level, if you want access to additional co-writers and producers, listening sessions, co-working sessions and "speed dating" style songwriting sessions, 1:1 production coaching and more, you can add these services to your subscription. And if you find you're not taking advantage of everything, you can downgrade your subscription easily.
On Monday mornings, we publish the weekly songwriting prompt. This is a word or phrase to work into your song lyrics or a concept to inspire your song. At 4:00 PT, we host a community listening session for peer feedback on the previous week's songs.
Our co-work sessions at 4:00 PT on Tuesdays and Thursdays represent an opportunity for you to schedule your songwriting time. We begin with a mindset moment to bring your attention to your songwriting desires and design a creative space for your work.
The deadline to turn in your new song is 11:59 pm on Sundays. We encourage a complete song draft (beginning, middle, end) but will accept a verse and a chorus. The recordings you post can be as simple as a voice memo, voice and guitar or a more fully produced demo.

Just like working out or any other kind of exercise, we know that repetition makes you stronger. Even if the first few times are a struggle, over time you will get faster, more creative and more confident. Every week, writing a new song will have you working, developing your craft, using your instincts and the valuable peer feedback you will receive helps you to improve.
Getting feedback on your songs from your peers is a fantastic way to generate more content because they are holding you accountable, and at the same time, offering you insight like no one else can. And since peers are providing the feedback, there's no concern for favoritism or competition. We're all in this together... that makes for a better community experience. Supportive, honest and actionable, that's what we provide. So no matter your level of experience, you will grow in your craft.
Writing more songs is only the start. We know that ultimately you want to finish those songs with amazing productions that can be released or pitched for sync (or both). Songbanks can connect you to experienced producers who want to work with songwriters. You're in control of your collaboration all the way through. We do offer advice on how to structure your deal as you move into production terms.

Once you join, you'll be invited into the private community Facebook page. That is where you will receive weekly prompts on Mondays and also where you will post your song for feedback from the community by Sunday at 11:59 pm PST. The Facebook page will also be where we post information about opportunities to network, etc.
In the beginning, we will start by acknowledging everyone on a FB post with a special graphic. As our Songbanks grow, we will "pay dividends" in the form of free plug-ins, gift cards and other prizes.
It will generally be a word or phrase that you can incorporate into the lyrics of your song, or use as a concept. Examples might include words like: "shadows," "hidden," or "proud." The prompt is meant to inspire you. If it doesn't work it's way in to the lyric, that's okay. The point is to write a song!
These are Zoom calls set up to have anyone who wants the structure of a set writing time to be able to dial in and be held accountable for their writing time. The group will work mostly in silence during the hour, and we incorporate a mindset moment at the top of the hour to get focused.
These are Zoom calls where attendees move into breakout rooms to meet new collaborators and to work on a song together for a short time. Generally we try to have 3 "speed dates" in the hour. This gives everyone the chance to meet and get to know the other members of the community.
